About Me

Currently based in Lincolnshire UK, I am a British American who has been playing violin / fiddle for 30 years. Starting out with classical music in elementary school when I was 9, I decided to switch to Irish Folk music after university. I've continued studying classical music as well and recently passed my grade 8 exam (with distinction). Having a background in multiple styles has enabled me to develop a unique way of playing.

I spend the majority of my time gigging or doing street performances in many towns across Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, and other locations across the country. As a freelance musician I also play with various bands. At the moment I'm playing in my own celtic fusion band Serena Smith & Friends, I'm the caller for Castile Ceilidh Band, and I play with Lindum Strings, Adam Schofield, and Sean Jackson. I have also played with Lynn McFarland and Matt Steady as Smith & Co. I have previously played with Croagh Patrick, Mary Jane, OneOrchestra, The Lonely Mr Punch, and the Band from County Hell.

I also Irish dance and occasionally perform a few steps at a gig, especially around St. Patrick's day!

 I am available for many types of events including:

Teaching

I teach beginner violin in schools and I'm currently taking private students for violin or fiddle from beginner to grade 5. I can also coach up to grade 5 music theory. Lessons are £26 an hour plus any travel expenses. Contact me to find out more!
